Definitely NOT Vodka

I drink a lot of coffee and I collect a lot of silly things. My coffee mug collection is pretty extensive. I feel that they are a fun way to express my personality and my interests. If you know me, you know vodka is one of my favorite things! This silly mug has pretty much lived on my desk since the day I got it.

When I saw this cute mug from Got Me Tipsy, I just had to have it. It's so me. At the same time, it is also perfect for my best friend. I struggled with the thought of keeping it, or gifting it to her. The shop has a matching one that says "Definitely Not Wine". I think I will be grabbing that one as a gift for her, because I could not part with this one.

The mug is white in color and holds 11 ounces of "beverage". It is made of ceramic. It is microwave and dishwasher safe. The silly text is printed on both sides and is of nice quality, and so far is holding up great. It's a simple shape, so it is very easy to clean.

I have small hands, so I can fit three fingers through the handle with room for a fourth. I love this in the cold months, for warming my hands up.

I love this mug. It has simple, clean lines, a cute font, and the saying is hilarious. It's holding up very well to being used multiple times a day for coffee, tea, and other "beverages" I know a few people that would love one.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars.  It's the perfect gift for the lush/quirky friend or family member in your life.

Mermaid Art with Gel Pens

Summer is here! I'm getting in the mood by making some Little Mermaid art. I am obviously a huge fan of Ariel. Her hair inspired mine.

Gel Pens are an interesting media. Yes, if you are covering a large area, it's a time consuming process, but it's also very cathartic to draw those lines.

US Art Supply has an awesome gel pen set. It comes with 2 sets of 60 different colors, so when you run out of a color, you have a back up! Sweet!

There is a great variety! Classic colors, neons, pastels, metallics, glitter!!! It even has some swirly colored ones, which are fun for writing. I'm having a blast using the 4 different reds for Ariel's hair.

The ink flows out of these great and it stays on the paper...I haven't had any smudges yet, on my paper or my hands. There is a good bit of ink in the pens. This picture is on 11x14" paper and I am going to town with the reds, and they are holding up great.

There is only one downside. They do not have grips. There is an indent in the pen where a grip should be. It isn't super uncomfortable, but I take breaks before my fingers start to get sore from holding the pens.

 Grab some on Amazon!

These pens are awesome. The variety of colors is great and I love that it's a two pack. They will make a lot of art with me. The ink quality is great. I give them 4 out of 5 stars. If they had rubber grips to protect my fingers, they would definitely be a 5 star product for me. I would recommend them for anyone who likes to draw or write with pretty colors.

Dinosaur Jewelry Organizer Tutorial

I ordered a plethora of Dinosaur Toys from Amazon, and had to come up with some grown up uses for them. This jewelry organizer is easy to make, unique, and adorable! It can hold tons of bracelets and necklaces too! It looks so fun hanging up on my wall. You could also use it for keys.

Supplies:
Wooden Plaque
X-Acto Blade
Hot Glue Gun
Dinos
Optional: Paint ( I didn't paint mine...yet)

First, you need to cut your dinos in half with your X-Acto. Some people use just the dino heads, some just their tails. I used both. I cut them right above their hip bones.

I lined the six pieces up on the plaque to get a feel for where I would like to place them. Then I just added hot glue and pressed the body parts to the wood. I held each for a few seconds, then added some hot glue around the edges while they were against the wood for extra hold.

There you have it. Ready to hang on the wall and hold your jewelry, keys and whatnot. There are a ton of variations you can do depending on the shape of your plaque and the dino parts you use. Some people even paint over everything to give it a monochromatic look...but I'm a colorful gal so I left them natural. I'm seriously contemplating painting, or even gluing plants to the plaque.

Bonus: You can use a Brachiosaurus for a ring holder!

Thanks for checking out my tutorial. If you would like to make Dino planters, you can see how here.

Dinosaur Toy Planter Tutorial

These dinosaur planters are super adorable and really easy to make! All you need is an X-Acto blade, hollow toy dinos, soil, and tiny plants. I'm rooting spider plant babies in mine right now...until I am able to steal some succulents from my guy friend. Then I will have an entire herd of spiky little dinosaurs!

If you already have plants selected for these guys, you can use a pen to mark out a square/rectangle on the back of your dinosaur. I didn't with the Brontosaurus because I knew I wanted his entire back removed to fill it with spidey babies. Use your X-Acto to remove the panel from the dinosaur. I told you, it's super easy.

Now, just fill up the dino with soil (or water in my case) and place the plants inside. These are absolutely adorable. Using these for succulents or air plants woud make a great gift for any dinosaur lover.

Bonus: This Parasaurolophus didn't like standing up on his own, but he fit perfectly in my Marimo aquarium. These Dinos are a fun addition to terrariums and aquariums too!

Dinophile For Life

I have been a dinosaur lover my whole life. My mother tells stories about when I was a toddler and would run to the dinosaur books at the library. I could pronounce the names of dinosaurs she had never even heard of. I was hooked. Now, thirty years later, I am still obsessed.

I saw this set of toy dinosaurs on Amazon. They were a great value and looked really neat. As a grown woman I knew having a set of twelve toy dinosaurs might seem a little silly, so I tried to be creative with them. I decided to make planters and a jewelry holder. I will put links to tutorials at the end of this blog.

This set from Kids Imaginative comes with twelve different species of dinosaurs. Their quality was way better than I had expected. I thought they would be similar to the hard plastic ones from a dollar store, but they are actually pretty soft and the details are so good!

While I came up with ideas for some of these guys...the Tyrannosaurs and Stegosaurus will forever hang out on my shelf. "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!" I you ever want some Dino toys for your kiddos or have a Dino DIY project you want to do, I would definitely recommend this set!

Ordering From China is Like a Box of Chocolates. You Never Know What You're Going to Get.

I am a huge lover of minerals. Not only because my name is Crystal, but because they are beautiful to look at, and I love that you can put healing energy into them. Even if it's only a placebo effect, it's a nice way to relax, for me anyway. I have been collecting crystal jewelry since I was a child. My name is Crystal, it became a theme. I saw this gold dipped quartz necklace and had to have it. I don't wear much gold, therefore have never owned any golden mineral pieces.

When this necklace arrived, I was surprised by it's size. It was ginormous! I don't usually wear such large pieces, but I was willing to make it work. Then I noticed how unattractive this piece was. There was a gouge in the front, and almost half of the back of the quartz was gone. You could even see strips of the gold paint running down the back. I was so disappointed.

I wrote to the company and they apologized and quickly sent me a new necklace. The first necklace was delivered by Amazon, the second came all the way from China itself. I opened the second package, and the new quartz was half the size of the first. I was okay with this. The sheer size of the first one was stunning, but I'm sure it wouldn't be very comfortable to wear. The second necklace was much more reasonable.

The chains on these are long, thin, light and cheap feeling, but they look nice. The color is nice, and I love the extra detail in the chain. The clasp holding the crystal itself is also pretty cheap. I would be very gentle with this necklace. There is a thin layer of gold, kind of haphazardly painted onto the top of these necklaces. It's not very even, and the tops of them are pretty jagged.

I took a photo of another crystal necklace with a silver top to show the difference in quality. I bought the silver one at the Museum of Science for $10, about 15 years ago. The quartz itself is a bit cloudy and banged up, but you can only tell from close inspection. From a distance I love the necklace. The chain length is great. The second crystal's size is perfect, and the weight is good. I'll just be sure to be mindful of it, in case the chain breaks.

I give this necklace 3 out of 5 stars. There are a few cons, but I still like it and I will wear it. Just be weary, like most things ordered from China, you might be in for a surprise, like completely different sized products, or ones that vary from the product photo. The company did send me a replacement, so their customer service was good, but I had to wait a lot longer than the usual two day shipping I get with Amazon Prime. I wouldn't order this if I needed it quickly.

If you want to try your luck, you can order here.

Warm Weather is Here! It's Time for Boho Accessories!

It's my favorite time of year! After the snow melts away, the sun comes out and the world blooms. The warm weather gives me a reason to wear flowers in my hair! I have plenty of flowers, garlands and headbands. I was looking for something new. I was so stoked when I found this beautiful beaded, feathered, faux leather headband.

I was so pleased with the quality of this product! It's comfortable. The faux leather cord is beautifully braided and durable. The beads and feathers are gorgeous and perfect. I w as also pleasantly surprised by the adorable shamrock charm, I wasn't expecting that.

You can even remove the feathers. I specifically got this headband to wear to Earthfest, but I ended up very sick the past couple weeks, so I haven't even been able to wear this with a cute outfit yet. The accessory is absolutely perfect. It will get a ton of wear once I get back outside.

I'll wear this as both a headband and necklace. I'm so excited to work it into my wardrobe. I give this product 5 out of 5 stars. It's so much better than I expected. I would totally recommend.
